Business Q&A with Monica & Hannah from B.Bold
Tell us about how and why B.BOLD came about?
Sisters Monica and Hannah have had a passion for making and creating since they were little. Fast forward and B.BOLD was established, a company that specialises in crafting all-natural deodorants and a luxurious Everyday Hero facial oil.
Our business, which started as a hobby at Hannah's kitchen table, quickly grew as more and more people learned about our products. Hannah's broad background which incudes biochemistry and natural skincare, as well as her meticulous attention to detail, allows her to research and perfect our products. Monica, with her background in film production and advertising is dedicated to making sure that as many people as possible can try B.BOLD, and experience the benefits for themselves. We put a lot of love and care into our products and we hope that you will enjoy using them as much as we do.
What was the hardest part about making sure it’s sustainable and you’re not falling into the category of green washing?
Sustainability has always been a key focus for B.BOLD which has made decision making in this space very clear cut. The toughest part is ensuring that our suppliers align with our values. To achieve this, we conduct extensive research and take extra steps to ensure that our choices work in harmony with the environment. One of our recent initiatives includes a circular jar return program, which helps reduce waste and reuses resources. We are proud of our commitment to sustainability and strive to be transparent about our efforts.
What is the most challenging part of starting your own business?
One of the most difficult aspects of starting B.BOLD has been trying to balance all of the responsibilities and tasks that come with running a business. The juggle is real, and not all hats fit (as much as we try)!
B.BOLD is fortunate to have some creative and generous souls who help us along the way. Despite the challenges, the satisfaction and excitement of building something of our own is worth it. The more challenging the journey is, the more satisfying the wins.
What tips would you give to somebody who wants to start an eco business but has no idea where to start?
Connecting with other brands that are making a positive impact on the environment can be a great way to gain insight and inspiration. Additionally, researching government and council resources can help provide support and information. It’s also important to get clear on the initial passion and motivation for starting. Don’t forget the dream that began it all!
What’s one thing that happened recently that you’re proud of?
We are incredibly proud of our recent awards for B.BOLD, as it is a testament to the quality of our products and helps to build confidence in our brand. Also one of our favourite things is receiving regular and positive feedback from happy customers, it’s always a source of pride for us and this mean a lot. It confirms that we are creating truly beneficial products for New Zealanders and the world.
What do you want from the future of B.BOLD?
We're a small but mighty team at B.BOLD, currently wearing many hats to keep everything running smoothly. We've had a great organic growth so far and we're excited to expand and bring in some new, specialized talent to help us grow even more.
It's been a fun journey so far and we're looking forward to what's next, including some exciting new products in the works.
What’s your favourite product?
It’s hard to go past our deodorant, it’s a daily staple and onewe can't live without.
What sets B.BOLD deodorant apart is that it's formulated like a balm, so it stays on the skin even when you sweat, and you only need to apply it once a day.
It has a silky-smooth consistency and doesn't leave any greasy residue or stain your clothes. Plus, it has added benefits like Arrowroot and Kaolin clay to absorb moisture, and Mango butter and Vitamin E to soothe and hydrate sensitive skin.
Most importantly, it effectively neutralizes odour for all-day protection.
Stay fresh and B.BOLD! xx
