So Why Exactly Does Plastic Suck?

Imagine if we only used plastic for the essentials, imagine if we only used it for good!

The Good and The Not So Good

Plastic can be pretty much impossible to avoid, yet it is leaking nasty toxins into our drinks and food. Not only is the fact it stays on the planet forever really rubbish, but the fact that it is made from oil sucks even more.

Diamonds in the Rough

We act as though we will be able to keep making plastic forever. When in actually fact we should be treating it like a rare diamond. Plastic is made from petroleum which is a non-renewable resource. Once this resource has gone, we will no longer be able to make plastic. (WOOOO you might be thinking!) Well in actually fact, plastic can be extremely useful when it comes to the medical industry, keeping food fresh and providing clean drinking water around the world. Pretty essential hey!?

However the negatives of single-use plastic, and the quantity in which we use it, far outweigh the positives right now. Which is why we need to make changes. Imagine if we only used plastic for the essentials, imagine if we only used it for good! The world would definitly be a different place right now.

So where exactly does petroleum come from?

Petroleum comes from the bottom of the ocean. It is pulled up in a process called dredging, which can be extremely disasterous to our beautiful planet.

What Effect Does Oil Drilling Have on the Ocean?

  • Oil spills cause the most damage

  • Unwanted sonic turbulences

  • Safe waste disposal

  • Effects on the ocean floor

  • Emissions to the air

  • Burning of gas and light pollution interrupt beautiful views and clear skies

  • Concerns of human safety within the industry

  • Unsafe methane emissions contribute to modification of the environment

The Downright Shit!

To me the worst part of the whole oil drilling styem is not only the havock it imposes on the ocean it’s self, but also the marine life, and the coral. These animals are damaged in the process, they are damaged due to the methane gasses been giving off which in turn heats up the planet and the oceans, killing the coral. They are also the first to be damaged if, and when oil spills occure (which unfortuntly isn’t rare), and they are also the first to be damaged once the oil had been processed into plastic, and it ends up back in the ocean.

It’s a very vicous cycle.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help you guys cut the single-use plastic out of your life so that the valuble ‘diamond’ resourses can be used to create plastic that will have a positive effect. We do not need to be using a material that takes hundreds of years to disintergrate for single use straws or bags. It isn’t plastic that is the devil here. It is the human addiction to plastic that equates to the negetive impact.

Fun Fact - Yes some plastics can be recycled, but unlike aluminium or glass, when plastic is recycled the quality of it degrades, until it can no longer be used.
