2020 The Year of Change | AWWA Period-Proof Underwear

2020 IS THE YEAR

It feels like the push for change is starting to finally get some momentum. Trust me when I say we couldn't be happier about this!

There are fires all over Africa, Australia and South America, floods all over America and Europe, and Plastic Waves all over the world. People are finally starting to wake up, and realise that our actions as humans have consequences. We are on a mission to cut down on waste and over production, and we have limited time to spread the message.

THE PROCESS OF CHANGE

I came across AWWA period-proof underwear over a year ago now (previously: I AM EVA) and I honestly would never go back. If you’re looking for ways to cut down on waste this is one of the best steps you can take.

Before starting Ethically So. I personally found that picking a room to focus on made it way easier to comprehend how you can cut down on your plastic consumption. If you look at your overall house it can be quite intimidating, and hard to imagine how you will ever get to a point of living low-waste. The first room I ever switched to plastic free was the bathroom. It’s much easier than you imagine, especially with so many epic low-waste products such as period-proof underwear by AWWA.

AWWA THE LABEL

AWWA The Label is known as the worlds slimmest period underwear. “With no compromise on absorbency! AWWA underwear holds 2 tampons' or pads' worth of flow.” Not only do women spend a crazy amount of money on their periods per month (Average of $240 per year), but we also produce A LOT of waste. Did you know that: The Average woman will use around 17,000 tampons per life time? We think that’s a lot of waste that can be avoided.

Unlike with tampons, there is no chance of Toxic shock syndrome with period underwear. Toxic Shock Syndrome can kill, and is actually a lot more common than people think. If we each sat down and read the warning signs on a tampon leaflet, I can guarantee a lot less of us would use them.

SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL

Here at Ethically So. we are all about supporting local New Zealand businesses, education others and making low-waste living easy. Which is why we are super excited to announce that in 2020 we will finally be getting AWWA period-proof pants on the website.

AWWA are not only on a mission to cut down on waste, but they also aim to educate, and fight period poverty in New Zealand. They donate 5% of all period underwear made.

A recent survey of 5000 women and girls in New Zealand by KidsCan found that:

1.  53 % had found it difficult to afford sanitary items at some point
2.
23% had missed school or work due to lack of sanitary care
3.
29% of under 17 year olds had missed school or work due to lack of sanitary care4.  30% said they had had to prioritise buying other items like food, over sanitary items

Join the AWWA revolution and help us fight Period Poverty in NZ.

You can find out more information about the good they are doing as a company on their website

*PLEASE NOTE ALL AWWA UNDERWEAR PURCHASES MADE ON ETHICALLY SO. WILL STILL DONATE 5% TO PERIOD POVERTY
