It’s Impact
Only 9% of plastic ever made has been recycled, meaning the majority of it has gone to landfills or find its way into our environment. By switching to long-lasting reusable and refillable bottles you can help reduce the amount of plastic going to landfills and polluting our environment.
These bottles replace the plastic liquid bottles you would typically buy at the supermarket, and when refilled from a bulk refillery, this small change can make a big difference in reducing the amount of plastic waste produced in your home.
We have been using amber glass bottles in our house since March 2018 and have found it to be an easy swap for us and a great step towards eliminating plastic waste in our homes.
Materials
Glass Bottle – Yup, you guessed it, its made out of glassPlastic Trigger- Yes, this is still plastic. As we are only a small business, we tend to order small quantities and have limited options as a result. This is something we plan to improve on and hope in the future we can switch to a metal pump.
Care
The glass bottle should require very little care; however, you may want to wash them out every now and then to stop the pump from getting clogged. You can do this by handwashing with hot soapy water and using a small bottle brush.
If you find the hand pump has become clogged or stiff, don’t throw it away. Instead, remove the pump from the bottle, and pump hot water through the pump and tube to clean it. Once clean, pump a tablespoon of olive oil or vegetable oil through the pump several times then again with water to remove the oil.
Please be careful using these in the shower as it is glass, which is fragile and can be slippery when wet. Pay extra attention if you have little ones in the house.
End of life
No longer functional? Can’t find an alternative use for this product?
The glass bottle can be recycled at your local recycling facility.
Due to the number of components used to make the hand pump, it is unfortunately not currently recyclable. We will be working on finding a better solution for future products like this, as it is not ideal for us to have products that cannot be reused, recycled or composted. Before throwing it out, however, check with us as we may be able to find a replacement part offering a better alternative to throwing it out.
