Reusable Goods for Preventing Food Waste

Food Waste Sucks!

Today we’re going to focus on ways in which you can reduce your food waste whilst in the comfort of your own home.

Did you know that 1/3 of all supermarket bought food ends up as waste? We know! Crazy right. Especially when we think about the fact that food waste gives off a large amount of methane gas into our environment. It’s crazy to think that we waste money on food just to throw it away again. This is due to not only our obsession with aesthetics, but it can also be related to mindfulness and nutrition.

Luckily for your, here in the plastic free world, we are on a mission to supply products that not only cut down on single-use waste, but that also cut down on food waste.

Mindfulness + Nutrition

When it comes to nutrition and being mindful we need to get rid of the technology and the emotional eating. It’s time for us to actually think about what we are consuming and why, rather than mindlessly watching tv and finishing the whole packet. More often than not, if we go to the supermarket whilst we are hungry, we will buy more than we actually need. Writing a shopping list and sticking to it will definitely help with this, as will taking a note of what you have in your fridge and cupboards before you leave the house. Small changes like these can have a big impact, not only on your food waste levels, but also on your bank account.

Check out some of the products we have on the website:

Silicone Zip lock bags

-

By far our most popular food storage alternative!

These are perfect for storing snacks, veggies, soup and even make up whilst going through airport secruity. They’re even great for keeping your shampoo and conditioner bars in whilst travelling. We have a variety of sizes available, from snack bags to 4litre ones, theres a size for every occasion. The 4litre ones are epic for storing a fresh loaf of bread in

Home compostable clingfilm

-

We understand that beeswax wraps and silicone ziplock bags may not be everybody’s cup of tea, which is why we wanted to provide options. Home compostable clingfilm is a great switch from plastic clingfilm, if you have a home compost. If you do not compost, be aware this will just end up in landfil. It will degrade eventually, but it will take a lot longer than if it was composted. Saying that, it is a much better alternative than plastic!

Beeswax wraps

-

These are literally my number one go to. You can also get plant-based ones of these which is epic! Portable, reusable, fixable, - last a year, interchangeable, asthically please which we know is important to us!

Beeswax wraps can be used to cover bowls, wrap lunches, take snacks on the run, cover leftover cheese and vegetables, and so much more! Just use the warmth of your hands to mould the wrap into shape, and the opportunities are endless.

Home Compostable Sandwich Bags

-

These are great for young kids, as long as they bring them home to be composted.

“I’m clingy, but I won’t over stay my welcome”

Currently, our oceans are on track to have more plastic by weight than fish by 2050. it’s a daunting thought, but you can make an impact by doing something as small as ditching the plastic in your kitchen. Compostic guilt-free, the home compostable sandwhich bag is designed to break down completely in just 12-24 weeks - instead of hundreds of years.

Silicone lids

-

One of our latest additions to the site! & we are obsessed.

“Say good-bye to cling wrap with our Silicone Stretch Lids!

These babies are the perfect alternative to cling wrap and keep anything from your leftovers to your half-cut onion fresh!” - Kappi

Stainless Steel Lunch Boxes

-

Welcome the LEAK PROOF lunch box. Choose with or without seperate inner compartments. Perfect for travell or if you’re on the road a lot. They are also one of the best additions to your work bag (no leaks here!)

There is a shape and size lunch box made to suit everybody. I personally prefer the twin rectangle lunch box as it bits perfectly in my bag without ended up on its side.

We would love to hear about any further low-waste alternatives you may have for preventing food waste. Comment below to let us know, or share this blog post with friends and family to help spread the word.
