Welcome to 2022. Let’s Go Eco

Well, we’ve made it. We’re here in 2022 and it almost seems surreal. It’s been a pretty bumpy track to get here, especially from a business perspective. We’ve seen so many businesses shut their doors, and to be honest, we’re just happy to be here. So let’s enjoy it whilst we can.

Top Tips to Go Eco

Start small. When setting new goals for the year ahead it’s important to remember that if they are too big from the get-go then you’re never going to succeed, or you’re going to kill yourself trying. Your ‘Go Eco’ goals need to be SMART goals. Ones that are realistic for YOU. Not for anybody else.

For example. When I decided to cut down on my plastic waste, I decided to start with the bathroom only. It was the smallest room in the house and so it made the most sense to start small, rather than scaring myself off.

Maybe for you, it’s a simple switch such as sitting in to have a coffee and making more time for yourself. Or maybe it’s switching to period pants or a menstrual cup so that you can be more in tune with your body. There are small steps out there for everybody. Only you can decide where to start.

5 Easy Eco Tips:

Always take a keep cup: I have been in plenty of situations where they have refused to use my keep cup due to COVID and so I have gone to another cafe which will take one. UYO can help you find a cafe that will. Or if you’ve simply forgotten your keep cup then it must be a sign to sit down and slow down.

Help out where you can: Beach cleans are an epic way to not only make yourself feel better but to also help your community and our oceans by tidying up any trash. Sustainable Coastlines often has events running.

Use non-toxic, refill products: Not only can you cut down on how many plastic bottles you’re going through, but you can also cut down on the chemicals going into our water ways. These epic Amber Glass Bottles pair well with our DAZZ cleaning tabs

Go Reusable: This might mean taking your lunchbox to work/school/uni/the park/beach. I even take a plate from work and take it down to the sushi cafe below so that I don’t have to use their single-use plastic boxes. Or maybe for you, it’s something simpler like making sure you don’t leave the house without your water bottle. I often watch friends get caught out having to buy plastic water bottles as they didn’t have their own.

Shop local / Support NZ Companies: With big companies like Costco, Amazon, Ikea and eBay coming into play it’s getting harder for small businesses. Personally, our main competition is supermarkets who are starting to bring in more eco-friendly options. This is amazing as eco products are becoming more easily accessible. However with the sheer amount of stock they can buy in one go it unfortuantely undercuts small businesses and suppliers left, right and centre.
